History

Born and raised in Portsmouth, Aradia was always a little bit of an anomaly, even for the city. Alongside her twin sister, Damara, the two lived in a large house on a hill that looked like it'd been plucked straight out of the Edo period, but they were never given an explanation for it. Their mother was protective of her girls, even though her 'job' required her to be away for long periods of time.

Aradia and Damara learned to take care of themselves rather quickly, though they were never truly by themselves. Their personal inborn talents meant that the spirits of the wide world would help with raising them - saving Aradia from falling off a counter, stopping Damara from sticking her hand on the stovetop, et cetera. Aradia came to consider the spirits her friends and allies, and soon came to grasp her telekinetic powers as well.

When they entered school, the twins were bullied - for being twins, for being Japanese, for wearing their lily clips, for being 'spooky'. Aradia was able to shrug it off, but Damara was more deeply effected, taking to learning from her mother malevolent magic. On the contrary, Aradia began to learn magic that allowed her to calm vengeful spirits and perform exorcisms. In addition to their mother teaching them traditional practices relating to their Shinto faith, it was a perfect balance of baneful and benevolent magic.

As they reached their teenage years, Aradia began to lose interest in what she had been passionate about before - something that concerned her friends and then-boyfriend, because she had always been a happy, cheerful, smiling individual. She became gloomy, indrawn, and apathetic, which was later diagnosed as depression. She had pulled away from almost everyone, but was able to receive therapy and medication after she graduated high school, much to the relief of her friends and dear mother.

Recently, she learned from the spirits around her that she was going to die. When, or how, they would not tell her, but just that it was going to be inevitable. She has accepted her fate, but dreads that day, but knows that it will be for the best.

Despite this, she’s found friendship and companionship with the ghost of a boy who died some time before, has pursued studying archaeology and osteology at Portsmouth university, has become a rather popular GM for a dungeons and dragons group, has found both a boyfriend and a girlfriend, and has dedicated herself to protecting the city from supernatural threats - for as long as she can, anyway.

Supernatural

Aradia has the ability to speak with the spirits of the deceased, and as a result acts as something of a medium, divinitor, and exorcist, as the spirits are not locked to the linear timestream and often give her premonitions of the future, however small. She hires herself out to deal with poltergeist hauntings, reads tarot cards, mirror scries, and offers interpretations of spirits for those in mourning. She’s popular at funerals. She doesn’t like to ask for money for these services, asks people to pay what they can and no more, and only requests it to put money toward university.

Aradia is very spiritually tuned, with the ability to see people’s mystical energies, and for her, the line between mundane and astral is blurred. She sees things that others can’t, the spirit world being one with the normal world. One person might see an empty park, Aradia might see a grand gathering of spirits dancing. She sees things for what they really are.

Aradia has an incredible talent for Telekinesis, and can lift things of considerable size with her mind, and often uses this ability to fly. She hasn’t tested the limits of her telekinetic powers yet, however, has lifted boulders with it.

Personality

Aradia is very cheerful and outgoing in general. She likes to explore the forest near the city, but rarely goes to the beach. She is happy tending the shrine her family runs and dealing with the dead. She has a hobby of making music boxes, and is very enthusiastic about Indiana Jones, to the point that she has a blacksnake whip autographed by Harrison Ford, which she uses for swinging from things, because it’s fun. She doesn’t even need it.

However there are periods when her depression gets bad, even with medication. During this time she begins to speak in a rather apathetic tone, inundated with the spirits of the dead and so withdraws from others. Thankfully she knows she has people she can depend on when this happens.
